Blood, Sweat, and Tears: Canadian Military Medicine

October 20, 2023 – March 3, 2024

Exhibition Details

Blood, Sweat, and Tears: Canadian Military Medicine explores Canadian military medicine from the 19th century through to Afghanistan. The exhibition features personal artifacts and oral histories from Canada’s medical teams who have saved countless lives tending to wounded military personnel and civilians.

Canadian stretcher-bearers, medics, nurses, doctors, surgeons, and other medical personnel have played an essential role in the country’s military, especially in the First and Second World Wars, where over 138,000 and 53,000 were wounded, respectively.

Visitors to the gallery will discover technological advances that have been made, through exhibits of equipment spanning initial first aid and battlefield medicine through to convalescence. There is also a strong art component, particularly addressing PTSD.
